The need for food and especially, nutritious food, is great. According to numbers recently released by Feeding America's annual Map the Meal Gap study, in 2021 Harrison County had a 19.2 food insecurity rate. About 54% of the populace lives below the SNAP threshold for 130% poverty.
This is in addition to the fact that the state of Mississippi ranks at the bottom of virtually every indication of health, wellness and nutrition.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE IN RECENT YEARS:
Expanded our feeding program, which serves hot, nutritious meals from the church’s dining hall, as well as delivering to homebound sick and elderly. We added serving almost 300 meals each Monday in addition to each Wednesday.
We have delivered gift cards as well as meals to various communities hit by hurricanes or tornadoes not only in Mississippi but also Florida, Louisiana and Texas.
